'I'm safe up high, nothing can touch me'

Now, if you're following Meli then you would know that she got the Twilight 'Saga' for Christmas courtesy of moi. She doesn't like it. I don't think she's finished the series, though, so lets give her some time. Here's my take on the 'Saga'. I don't like it either. I think it's stupid. To expose adolescent teenage girls to this rubbish is just foolish. They cannot run around with these ideas in their heads. I will further explain my points with references to the books.
In case you don't know about this (i.e living under a rock or in a cave, or just oblivious to everything around you), the jist of the books are this mortal teenager, Isabella Swam, aka Bella, moves to Forks (a place that's gloomy with little sunshine for the whole year....think London, England in the States) to live with her father so that her mother can travel with her new husband. There, she falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. Meh, I've read this kind of crap before w/ Anne Rice. She never got this kind of publicity though. Maybe this author realised that kids/teenagers are the target audience if you want to make money (think, Wiggles, N*Sync, etc). Whatever, I fell for it.
Here are my issues with the books (I've managed to read 2 1/2 books, so far, I honestly don't know if I can finish it though....it's hurting my head. The half was because i've been skimming through Eclipse. I can't stand to read about how much Bella nad Edward love each other. Yechhh.) So, apprently this Bella has not had a boyfriend before. So when the hottest guy in the school starts paying attention to you, you feel good, right? She even says, that he's God like in how he looks. She was obviously drawn to him for that. And the fact that everyone in school dubs the Cullens as mysterious, that must peak Bella's interest some more. Apprently, there's nothing special about the way that she looks, yet all the boys in her new school are falling over themselves trying to get to her. Ok, I understand from the book that they come from a small town, and new people don't show up often, so that could be it.
And I was reading Stephanie Meyers website, and she had a 5th book coming out, called Midnight Sun, but apparently someone posted it on the web, and now she's pissed off and might not finish it. It was just re-telling Twilight anyway, but from Edwards point of view. However, in that book, apprently Alice (his "sister" who can see into the future) predicts that Edward will fall in love with Bella. So here's my thing, if someone whom you trust and respect, tell you that you will fall in love witht his person, wouldn't try to? You know, you would see why and how and just be more interested than if you just knew her as some girl. In the beginning of the book, it was her smell that drove him insane. It was so sweet that he couldn't resist. Hell, he should've just killed her then. But that's just me.
My other thing, is that he's obsessive. How can anyone in their right mind think that it's romantic to stalk someone when they sleep and follow them around afraid to leave them alone?!?!?! Hello, that should be a sign to run away.....run away fast!!!! I think it was stupid, but it's like crack to me. I can't get enough (except for the Bella and Edward "I love you, I need you, my life sucks w/o you" crap). I'm even going so far as to try to go watch the movie. I know, it's weirding me out too.
Then he decides to break up with her because it's much too dangerous for her to be around vampires. So he leaves her all broken like and sad. Ok, at 17, we've all experienced bad break ups where we don't really want to do anything. But we've all gotten over them. I think she would have too. She had Jacob.
I don't think this was a love story. It's foolish and i'm upset that little kids are giving it such rave reviews. Please children, learn to think that you can do anything you want and you shouldn't have to rely on someone else to make you happy. It's nice to be in love, but not infatuated or in lust.
There's so much more I hate about this series, but I think i've rambled enough. You should be able to understand my dislike by now.
